Classics at the Castle has established itself in England as ‘the’ unique event for Porsche enthusiasts & owners of all model types built 1948-1973. The 4th edition of Classics at the Castle took place on Sunday 12 September at Hedingham Castle, which is situated between Cambridge and Colchester.
The event, organized by Porsche Club Great Britain, showed a comprehensive 2.7 Carrera RS line-up, along with chronological displays for Porsche 356, 911, 912, 914, and 914/6. Special cars of interest on show were the ex Helmut Marko 1969 factory Martini Porsche 908/2 Longtail Spyder (3rd at Le Mans 1970), the ex Gijs van Lennep 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR (winner Targa Florio) and the ex Gijs Van Lennep 1974 factory Martini Porsche 911 2.1 Turbo Carrera RSR (2nd at Le Mans 1974).
Hedingham Castle once again provided a spectacular venue for this year’s meeting of enthusiasts. The castle and its beautiful grounds created an ideal back drop for the event and offered an alternative interest for family outings. Hedingham Castle had set aside a ‘Porsche Picnic’ area down by the Lake behind the house. A Jazz band played and there were picnic rugs to enjoy the very special atmosphere in this peaceful area of the gardens.
Porsche Cars Great Britain and Porsche Classic were official sponsors of the Club event. Porsche Classic, the department of Porsche AG responsible for supporting all Porsche classic cars, created a live workshop at the Porsche Exhibition Stand and highlighted the expertise of the specialists based at its workshop near Stuttgart, Germany, as well as the comprehensive range of Porsche Classic original parts and technical literature.
