Stuttgart. Despite the difficult market environment,
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, delivered 3,103 vehicles in North America in January. While this is a dip of 7% as against January 2006, the figure for the previous year was buoyed by extremely strong demand for the new Cayman S, more than 1,000 of which were delivered in the first month of its release on the US and Canada. Adjusted for this base effect, Porsche's sales would have been up in January even though the last available vehicles of the first generation of the Cayenne model series are on the market. Sales of the new Cayenne begin in Europe and Asia on February 24 and on the American continent on March 3.
At 956, deliveries of the 911 in January were up 15% on the previous year's figure of 833; this included 194 units of the 911 Turbo, which was launched on the world's markets last summer. 688 vehicles of the Boxster model series were sold in North America, with the Cayman and the Cayman S accounting for 499 of these units. While this is a decline of 52% as against January 2006, comparisons of these figures are largely irrelevant on account of the base effect described above. With 1,459 vehicles sold last month, the Cayenne outperformed its figure for the previous year of 1,063 units by 37%, even though Porsche is still refusing to boost its sales with plant discounts. This result clearly illustrates the enduring popularity of the sporty all-terrain vehicle among customers in the US and Canada.
