A fleet of cars, each delivering 420 hp, will again ensure that the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is the fastest one-make sports and GT series in Britain. At least three of the top four drivers from the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB plan to return for the new season and take on the challenge of a raft of fresh faces in what is shaping up to be one of the championship's best ever years.
Over 20 races at British Touring Car Championship events, a fine field of 911GT3 Cup cars will deliver plenty of action as defending champion Tim Harvey battles to take back-to-back titles.
Harvey has been around the sport long enough to know just how tough it is to repeat title wins. However, having battled for five years to win the Carrera Cup crown, he'll come out fighting over the opening races of the season.
The man who ran Harvey so close in 2008 is also due to return and Michael Caine sees the Carrera Cup GB as unfinished business. So too does Tim Bridgman, the driver who won the most races in 2008.
Ranged against this trio of formidable racers will be a crop of Carrera Cup newcomers after pre-season interest ran at record levels. Carrera Cup GB Scholarship winners Tom Bradshaw and Lewis Hopkins are among the new names and it is 19-year old Bradshaw who starts the season with a real chance of challenging for race wins.
But the youngest racer on the grid will be George Richardson, who will still only be 17-years old when the season finishes! Other strong newcomers include Robert Lawson and Ollie Jackson for what promises to be a superb season of racing.
