As the start of the second half of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season approaches, Team Parker Racing leads the overall driver standings with Tim Bridgman and lies second in the teams' championship.
Team boss Stuart Parker recently reflected on the first half of the season and looked ahead to the rest of the season, which resumes at Snetterton on 1/2 August.
"On-track, we're not getting everything our own way, but we're getting there," said Parker. "Tim Bridgman is excelling and he's driving with even greater maturity this year. His entire focus is on winning, which is fantastic and it drags the other boys up with him. The team is very settled; it's the same team we've had for three years and the guys are performing fantastically well."
Alongside Bridgman are young chargers Tom Bradshaw and Glynn Geddie, while Michael Leonard is the fourth of the team regulars. However, TPR runs a fifth car at some events and will again field five cars at Snetterton.
"I'm absolutely convinced that once Tom Bradshaw gets on the podium, there will be no stopping him. He's a fantastic talent developing and he is only going to get better," said Parker. "Likewise, with young Glynn Geddie; you have to remind yourself that he's only 18-years old and he has so little experience behind the wheel. The talent is obvious, and it's now about gaining the experience to be consistent. Barry Horne is doing a great job of bringing him on. I'm sure he will become a contender overall in 2010." Having won the Carrera Cup title in 2003 with TPR, Horne is working with the team again this season in a coaching role.
"Our other star driver is Michael Leonard and he has a real natural ability and he brings such an element of fun to the team. He does know when to crack the joke when things are getting too serious. That's a vital element to the team."
Parker is also thrilled with the overall standard in the Carrera Cup GB in 2009. "I've raced in a lot of paddocks over the last 12 years and never have I felt more at home than I do in Carrera Cup. There are a lot of people who have worked hard to get us where we are, and to see the results we are getting is great. There is a great camaraderie in the paddock and everyone helps each other out. There is a healthy respect between the teams and there is very little to choose between the leading teams. And it is a very level playing field.
"Porsche looks after us really well with the hospitality and I'd love to see Carrera Cup GB with 30 cars. I believe it deserves it. It would be good to see more teams come in, because you always want to win in the hardest year; it means more.
"We have no other business behind us, we are purely a race team and everything we do has to add up. I think Porsche Cars GB should be rightly proud of the Carrera Cup, because the whole presentation of the championship is to the highest order. All of the teams have invested heavily to make this a great-looking package."
