Behind the ongoing success of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as a race series are the close competition and the absolute equality of chances. Running exclusively in the series for the 2013 season is the new 911 GT3 Cup, based on the road-legal lightweight 911 GT3 RS sports car. Whilst the aerodynamics with a wider rear-wing is adapted for racing, the 460 hp 3.8-litre boxer engine is similar to the production unit. All race cars are technically identical as are the tyres and the fuel. Victory or defeat is totally dependent on the skill of the driver, the astuteness of the team – and that touch of elusive race luck.
