Smallwood confirms Carrera Cup GB campaign

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB contender Pete Smallwood will step up to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for 2013. Smallwood, one of the first drivers to confirm Carrera Cup plans for 2013, will contest the Pro-Am2 category with race-winning team Parr Motorsport.

"I'm really excited to be stepping up again, this time to the Carrera Cup GB,” said Smallwood. “It's going to be a steep learning curve but we have a solid base to build on from the 2012 season. I'm delighted to have signed with Parr Motorsport again. They have done a great job with me so far and I can't wait to start testing in the current generation 911 GT3 Cup car."

The company director from Towcester only started racing in 2010 in the GT3 Cup Challenge after taking part in tracks days. In 2012, he finished sixth in the GT3 Cup Challenge after a part season, topping his campaign with a podium finish in the final race at Silverstone.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Pete in 2012,” said team boss Paul Robe. “I’m happy he has made the decision to run in the Carrera Cup in 2013 and we are really looking forward to the season.”

“Pete will be the second driver that that we have taken from being a race novice and brought in to the Carrera Cup and it’s something we are very proud of,” said Robe. “It’s not something that happens over night: it has taken Pete nearly four years to get to this point but it is what the Porsche motor sport pyramid is all about. I believe Parr has the best environment to bring a driver on and raise their abilities to perform at Carrera Cup level.”
