Gran Canaria is probably the best known of the Canary Islands, and with an average temperature of 27 °C in the summer and 23 °C during the winter months, it’s the ideal holiday destination all year round. Its diverse scenery ranges from desert-like expanses of dunes to mountains reaching almost 2,000 metres high at the centre of the island. One of the typical features of Gran Canaria are the barrancos, deeply carved ravines that radiate out from the central mountain massif, stretching down as far as the coast. Other highlights include the spectacular serpentines and long stretches of coastal road running through and around the entire island – the ideal terrain for a pure-bred roadster.

After individual arrival, you will be greeted at the airport and taken to the Seaside Hotel Palm Beach – your ‘drivers’ paddock’ for the next few days. A particularly exclusive one, admittedly. The hotel’s design concept was developed by acclaimed French architect and designer Alberto Pinto and reflects his typical blend of colourful 1970s charm and his taste for the extravagant. Check in at the hotel before taking some time to explore the facilities and the local surroundings of this luxury establishment. The sea is close by, as are a number of exclusive shops and nightspots along the chic beach promenade. Savour your evening meal in the hotel’s Orangerie restaurant. One of the top places to eat in the area, it is particularly well regarded by anyone with a love for food.

Enjoy a relaxing start to the day over a leisurely breakfast. Shortly afterwards, you will receive a briefing on your vehicle for the tour: a thoroughbred roadster with a powerful engine – the new Boxster S. As you set out on the first few miles under the open skies through the ‘valley of a thousand palms’ to Fataga, you will witness straight away the incredible performance offered by this Porsche – in every bend and on every straight. Stop for lunch in the district capital of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The tour continues through Ayacata to the 1,803 metre high Roque Nublo – one of Gran Canaria’s most famous landmarks, and even higher up to the Pico de las Nieves. The descent is equally exhilarating, as you drive through the forest and past the Caldero de los Marteles volcanic crater towards the ravine of Guayadeque, a historic cave village. One further attraction before you set off on the return journey to Maspalomas is the former Episcopal seat of Agüimes. Return to the hotel where you are free to spend the rest of the afternoon as you please. Later in the evening, enjoy dinner at the Mediterranean-style Samsara restaurant.

Breakfast at the hotel, followed by the opportunity to take to the wheel of the Boxster S once again and drive along the winding mountain roads of Gran Canaria. Set off back down into the valley and through a picturesque winegrowing region. Break for lunch at a traditional restaurant serving typical regional specialities. In the afternoon, you continue past the Caldero de Bandama volcanic crater on your journey back to your hotel in Maspalomas. Relax over dinner at the Grand Hotel Residencia restaurant and review the many experiences of the day with other like-minded individuals.

Savour your last few hours on Gran Canaria with a leisurely breakfast or one last stroll through the hotel’s extensive grounds, before bidding farewell to this wonderful island. Transfer to the airport for individual departure.
