Porsche remains main sponsor of the Leipzig GewandhausCultural partnership confirmed for a further 3 years / Rosental Concerts to be staged again

Leipzig / Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is extending its cultural partnership with the Leipzig Gewandhaus for another three years and as one of the concert hall’s main sponsors (Global Partners) will be continuing to support international tours and concerts by the renowned orchestra until 2017. “For over ten years we have been very successfully producing the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera in Saxony and soon will be producing the Macan here too. Out of solidarity with the people of the area it is a particular concern for us to ensure the future of the cultural offering in the region. What’s more, through its tours the orchestra carries the ‘Made in Leipzig’ seal of quality around the world. Just as we do with our sports cars,” said Matthias Müller, President and CEO of Porsche AG, at the signing of the agreement, which took place at the Gewandhaus today. The carmaker has been a main sponsor of the Gewandhaus since August 2011. Siegfried Bülow, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig GmbH, added in his speech: “Here on these green fields in the north of the city we have always had the opportunity to grow and create a story of success. We owe the region great gratitude and therefore want to embrace our social responsibility even more fully.”

The Gewandhaus and Porsche also announced that, after a three year break, the open-air Rosental Concerts, highly popular with the people of Leipzig, are to be staged again from 2014 – and unlike in the past with free admission to the entire park. The idea of ‘summer concerts for all’ could now be realised for the very first time, explained Prof. Andreas Schulz, General Manager of the Gewandhaus: “I am delighted that with financial support from Porsche it will be possible from 2014 to have the Rosental Concerts put on for everyone’s benefit, with no fencing off of the site.” The musicians performing the Grand Concerts on two evenings next year will be led by conductor Alexander Shelley, who will be making his debut in Leipzig. The repertoire will include popular works from the programme of the ‘Last Night of the Proms’. Also celebrating her premiere with the Gewandhaus orchestra will be Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman.

“Today’s signing of the extension to the agreement is a great accomplishment of our shared endeavours and an important symbol for the people of Leipzig. Developing here from a one-off involvement is a long-term cultural partnership, from which the city benefits. The Rosental Concerts next year are the icing on the cake of this successful partnership between Porsche and the Gewandhaus,” added the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung.
