Porsche Classic, the department of Porsche AG responsible for supporting all Porsche classic cars, recreated the spirit of the early 1960s in the March Motorworks at Goodwood from 17 to 19 September and highlighted the expertise of the specialists based at its workshop near Stuttgart, Germany, as well as the comprehensive range of Porsche Classic original parts and technical literature.
Approximately 128,000 spectators attended the 2010 Goodwood Revival over its three days, underlining the enduring appeal of the event in the global historic motorsport calendar.
The Goodwood Revival, which has been taking place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit since 1998, is a very special experience. The most popular meeting of pre-66 racing cars in the world, it gives visitors a taste of the 40s, 50s and 60s. The vintage and classic races on the authentic circuit, which remains untouched by modern motor sports, are not the only spectacular feature: visitors also dress up in period clothing to immerse themselves in another world and bring the old times to life. More than 500 classic racing cars from all over Europe competed in different classes. The races, incidentally, are not open to everyone - a personal invitation from the Lord of March is needed.
This year, Porsche Classic made its debut at the 2010 Goodwood Revival and a star turn-out of drivers who raced for the Stuttgart marque visited the Porsche exhibit on the Saturday afternoon to toast a successful inaugural weekend for Porsche at the evocative Sussex race circuit. And those were the racing legend Tiff Needell, Jackie Oliver, John Fitzpatrick, Vern Schuppan, Richard Attwood, David Piper, Michael Ostroumoff, and Derek Bell. Each of them made a significant contribution to the reputation of Porsche on race tracks around the world, including six wins at the Le Mans 24 Hours. The famous “Grandmother”, the 718 W-RS Spyder, from the Porsche Museum, which raced from 1961 to 1964, was shown at the Porsche Classic Stand.
Porsche Origin, a special section of the website of Porsche Cars Great Britain, provided Porsche enthusiasts around the world with online access to exclusive behind the scenes footage, interviews and reviews from the Goodwood Revival, and further unique clips will be available to watch, download, share and enjoy at www.porsche.co.uk/origin.
