The going got hot at the 31st AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix on the Nürburgring – not just because of the temperatures, which were well above 30 degrees.
Before the event, the organiser AvD received more than 500 nominations from nineteen nations, and so spectators experienced a large number of exciting races involving international participation. Especially Porsche fans got a real treat in the form of the 910, 908 and 904 models that thundered over the course at racing speed as a reminder of the good old times. When the Porsche racing cars sped round the bends and their engines howled while accelerating, goose pimples were felt not only those among the spectators who had once experienced that era.
But that was not the only reason why friends of the Porsche marque were particularly enthusiastic about this year's OGP. They go to the OGP not only to breathe in the racing air, but also to experience an eventful weekend on the Porsche site with like-minded people from all over the world. It was no different this time either – just that bit better. the first surprise was the new, substantially more generously proportioned site in the Mercedes Arena, where the several hundreds of Porsche vehicles that had made the trip were able to present themselves in rank and file, arranged conscientiously according to types. 356, 911, 912, 914, 928, 944 and 968 – Porsche as far as the eye could see.
The fringe programme was no less impressive. A number of Porsche departments were present this time and so, on request, visitors were given an all-round information package. They were able to enquire about the availability of spare parts, they could buy technical literature, they could convince themselves of the quality of a restoration job done at Porsche's plant I and they were able to purchase accessories and paraphernalia which even included the Porsche bike. There was information on the subject of spare parts production for classics, but also about the Exclusive department's programme and Tequipment for new vehicles, even extending to the Bose surround system, which visitors were able to get an audible taste of.
It goes without saying that the club support team was also there, after having placed its information booth in the direct vicinity of a special presentation on the subject of forty years of the 911. A GT1, a 959 Dakar, a Carrera RSR and a four-seater prototype were reminders of this classical sports car's anniversary. Interviews that Susanne Franke from the Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcasting station conducted with numerous interesting guests enabled visitors to listen to great stories about the 911 and the Porsche marque.
And, of course, the hospitality tent with its customary perfect service was also there. So, all those who wanted to fully exploit all the opportunities offered on the Porsche site really got into a sweat.
