Porsche Centre Singapore launches the new Boxster and Cayman models Porsche's mid-engine sports cars are now equipped with more powerful and more fuel efficient engines

30 March 2009, Singapore. Over 80 invited guests were present at the Porsche City Centre on Saturday, 21. March 2009, as Mr. Francis Lee (General Manager of Porsche Centre Singapore) and Christer Ekberg (Managing Director of Porsche Asia Pacific) unveiled the new Boxster and Cayman models.

The new Boxster and Cayman, spotting aesthetical and performance enhancements, are equipped with the new flat-six boxer engines that are developed with new technical features from the ground up, providing not only more power but also significantly greater fuel efficiency than their preceding models. The Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), Porsche's new double-clutch gearbox, which is available to the Boxster and Cayman as an additional option, also serves to guarantee fuel economy and performance in both stellar cars.

Porsche Centre Singapore's General Manager, Mr. Francis Lee said, "Porsche has a reputation for making world-class sports cars and the new Boxster and Cayman will certainly live up to these very high standards. The new cars will retain the excellent driving and handling characteristics of their predecessors, but are now faster, more powerful, and more fuel-economical, making them the ideal sports car with exhilarating driving dynamics coupled with the practicality for everyday driving."

Both models come with a 2.9 litre engine, which develops 255 bhp in the Boxster and 265 bhp in the Cayman, an increase of 10 and 20 bhp respectively over their predecessors. The S-version of the Boxster and Cayman, comes with a 3.4-litre power unit and thanks to the Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), the Boxster S now delivers 310 bhp and 320 bhp in the Cayman S, an increase of 15 and 25 bhp respectively over their predecessors. As a result, the Cayman S with PDK and Launch Control featured in the optional Sports Chrono Package accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, setting the benchmark in the range.

Enhanced with the new PDK, both models outperform the nine-litre consumption mark. Both models with the new 2.9-litre boxer engine have a fuel consumption of 9.1 litres/100 kilometres according to the EU5 standard. Reducing fuel consumption by an even more significant 15% to 9.4 litres/100 kilometres, the 3.4-litre versions with PDK offer a great saving.

Both models are clearly distinguishable from the outside with their newly designed front and rear ends. The new Bi-Xenon headlights with their integrated direction indicators are reminiscent of the lights on the Carrera GT, and the new LED rear lights taper outwards and integrates elegantly with the modified rear end of the car.

From the front, both models are differentiated clearly differs by the distinctive design of their air intakes - from the rear through the new rear panels with diffuser inserts on the Boxster and a wind deflector plate on the Cayman.

Both models are available with the optional Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). When equipped with the PDK double-clutch gearbox, both models accelerate to 100 km/h 0.1 seconds faster than with the manual six-speed gearbox. Acceleration is particularly fast and dynamic, and can be enhanced with one of the optional Sports Chrono Packages featuring Launch Control for maximum acceleration from a standing start and the Race Track Gearshift strategy for the fastest conceivable gearshift as an exclusive highlight on the PDK models. Benefiting from Launch Control, the respective models accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h yet another 2/10ths of a second faster.

The progress offered by PDK is even more impressive when it comes to fuel economy, which is reduced by up to 15%. According to the EU5 consumtion standard, the Boxster and Cayman equipped with PDK consumes just 9.1 litres/100 km, with the S-models offering almost the same level of economy at just 9.4 litres.

The suspension with its new set-up gives the new models a combination of even greater drving dynamics and enhanced comfort all in one. Modification of the value control map on the steering transmission serves to reduce steering forces, making the Boxster and the Cayman more agile and spontaneous.

The basic models are equipped with newly designed 17-inch wheels and the S-models with 18-inch wheels, which gives the car an extremely powerful look. Both models feature the latest generation of the Porsche Stability Management (PSM). PSM now offers two new functions: Brake Pre-Loading and the Brake Assistant.

Both models are equipped as standard with the new CDR-30 audio system with 5-inch display (monochrome) and an MP3-compatible CD drive. The new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is available as an option and as the central control unti for audio, navigation and communication, it is now even more multifunctional and ergonomically operated.

Prices start from SGD 232,888 for the Boxster and SGD 265,888 for the Boxster S, while the Cayman retails from SGD 246,888 and the Cayman S from SGD 287,888.
