Porsche Pit Stop SingaporeA unique Porsche motoring event at the Padang
The Porsche Pit Stop Singapore is a one-day motoring event underscoring the Porsche’s unique motorsports heritage. For the first time, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season and media launch is hosted in Singapore in line with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia’s participation as a support race to the 2008 Formula 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. Secondly, it commemorates Porsche Club Singapore’s 20th Anniversary in 2008. And in addition, it is also the official premier of the new Porsche Cayenne GTS. The Porsche Pit Stop Singapore event will be held in Singapore on 14 March 2008, and hosted at the historic Singapore Cricket Club located along the future Marina Bay Street Circuit. In one single event, it brings together Porsche Asia Pacific, Porsche Centre Singapore and the Porsche Club Singapore for a celebratory occasion.
Its exciting programme line-up also includes the first-ever Porsche Commemorative Drive and the PorscheKidsDrivingSchool in Singapore. The latter aims to promote motorsports awareness, to further enhance road safety education and good road etiquette, involving the community with interactive elements during the event.
The Porsche Commemorative Drive will comprise about 100 contemporary and historic Porsches, including a Carrera GT, a 911 GT3 RSR and the Cayenne S Transsyberia which will be on display at driveway of Grand Hyatt Singapore from 8am onwards and join the convoy at Orchard Road.
The remaining convoy will flag off from the Dempsey Road public car park at 3.15pm, cruise along Orchard Road and end with a spectacular ‘Pit Stop’ at the Singapore Cricket Club. Visitors at the Singapore Cricket Club will get to enjoy the stunning view of the fleet of 100 Porsche cars on display and be among the first in Singapore to lay eyes on the new Cayenne GTS and the new 911 GT3 Cup car. The new 911 GT3 Cup car will enter the 2008 motorsports season with engine output increased to 420 bhp.
The new Cayenne GTS offers drivers membership into the legendary Porsche racing lineage, upheld by no less than 28,000 race victories. It is the new Porsche SUV designed exclusively for the road and engineered to set new benchmark for naturally aspirated SUVs – more instinctive performance, more Streetwise.
To add to the racing atmosphere there will also be an MC and music, giant TV screen with race footage and information videos, information on the Porsche Club Singapore, Porsche Centre Singapore and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, plus a food and beverage tent.
Another great event highlight will be the very first Porsche Kids Driving School in Singapore, taking place from 2.00pm to 4.30pm at the event site. This is one school that kids will be excited to go to, complete with real Porsche 911 pedal cars. Available for children between five to ten years old, the programme combines educational objectives with an entertainment approach. The driving school programme includes theory lessons on basic traffic rules and road signs as well as a practical driving session on ‘Porsche’ pedal cars under professional supervision. The practical session allows kids to immediately apply the traffic rules they have learnt, so they will experience what it is like to follow road signs and manoeuvre through bends and turns, demonstrate good road etiquette on the road, pedestrian crossings and junctions. At the end of the lessons, the kids will be rewarded with a ‘Porsche kid’s driving license’ as well as other goodies that have been prepared specially for the young drivers.
The Porsche Pit Stop Singapore concludes with the official Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Season 2008 press conference, where media guests will meet the teams and drivers, and learn more about the season up ahead.
