Porsche - The Race

The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East simply embodies everything that Porsche stands for. Motorsport heritage. Inspiring performances. Pure driving passion.

A race where victory laps become the starting point to move further into the arena of international GT and sports car racing. All the elements are in place. Twelve rounds. Six weekends. Three world-class circuits. One purpose built car: the powerful and dynamic Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Points are awarded on the basis of performances. This means, every round counts. And with the friendly rivalries forged over the course of previous editions, every round promises a boost of adrenaline. From start to finish.

Created to inspire and identify top Arab and local-based talent, the fifth season of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East provided further evidence why it is the most competitive and professional racing series in the region with the sixth set to be the most exciting yet.

The 12-round series features leading drivers from the Middle East and Europe, all competing in identical new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars on world-class circuits in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.

Since the launch in 2009, adrenaline fuelled rivalries have been forged, as proven drivers battle against up and coming talents for individual classifications and team honours.

In season five the title race went right down to the wire in a nail-biting finale. Reigning champion Clemens Schmid of Al Nabooda racing, Saudi Falcons former champion Abdulaziz AlFaisal and teenage protégé Zaid Ashkanani from Kuwaiti took the championship down to the final weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit. Ashkanani demonstrated all his class and skill to claim the maiden title from his more senior adversaries to become the youngest champion of the series.

Having produced a number of heroes and nurtured young talents such as Silver Michelin category winner Faisal Binladen, the fifth edition of the championship is set to produce even more enthralling and captivating action over 12 pulsating rounds from November 2013 to March 2014.

The fifth season also welcomed a new era with the introduction of the new generation 911 GT3, boasting an entirely new engine and transmission as well as body and chassis refresh, increasing heart rates of drivers and fans alike and opening a pulsating new chapter for Porsche Motorsport in the Middle East.

The one-make series features the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, provided exclusively to all participants with each vehicle set up technically identical. As a result, the GT3 Cup Challenge brings out the best in all drivers placing an emphasis on driver skills.

Sponsored by Michelin and Mobil 1, the series is run in compliance with the FIA International Sporting Code. All competitors must hold a valid FIA International Licence category "C" or higher.
