Dubai. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, unveiled its new top-of-the range Cayenne Turbo S for the first time at the 2006 Los Angeles Motorshow taking place between 4 and 15 of the current month. Generating 521 horsepower, the new Cayenne Turbo S is the second most powerful road car ever built by Porsche after the Carrera GT. It will also take center stage at the upcoming Detroit Motorshow starting 14th of January 2006.
The “basic" 4.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine featured in the new top-of-the-range Cayenne remains un¬changed in principle. However, two upgraded intercoolers with an even higher level of efficiency and a modified engine management in addition to an increased turbocharger boost pressure by up to 0.2 bar, serve to boost both engine out¬put and torque. Now reaching 521 hp at 5500 rpm, maximum output of the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is an amazing 71 horsepower above that of the Cayenne Turbo. These modifications have an equally positive effect on the development of power throughout the engine’s speed range, the Turbo S engine developing peak torque of 720 Newton-metres all the way from 2,750 to 3,750 rpm, representing an impressive increase by 100 New¬ton-metres.
This extra power and torque naturally means even better performance on the road. The Cayenne Turbo S now accelerates from 0–100 km/h in a staggering 5.2 seconds, all the way to a commanding top speed of 270 km/h. Overtaking in the medium speed range is an equally im¬pressive exercise taking just 5.4 seconds to acce¬lerate the Sports Utility Vehicle from 80–120 km/h. To match the superior performance, Cayenne Turbo S comes with an upgraded brake system featuring even larger brake discs increased in diameter from 350 to 380 millimetres at the front and 330 to 358 millimetres at the rear. As for the suspension, it features a fully-controlled self-leveling and active damper system as standard.
Full time four-wheel drive guarantees optimum transfer of power through a six-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. Moreover, PTM Porsche Traction Management ensures a well-balanced and efficient power distribution with the system being able to detect via sensors the need for a modified distribution of power in the interest of better driving dynamics. Twenty-inch lightweight aluminum wheels featured as standard complete the performance package. They come with massive 275/40 tyres homologated for speeds of up to 300 km/h.
Only the “Cayenne Turbo S" model designation on the rear lid, the door entry cutouts and the centre console reveal to the outside world the ferocious identity of the new top-of-the-range Cayenne within this distinctive model family. The exclusive class of this unique SUV is further bolstered by a comprehensive standard equipment list featuring automatic air conditioning, PCM Porsche Communication Management, electrically adjustable front seats, Bose Surround Sound System and ParkAssistant. In addition, all surfaces are largely finished in leather, and the Bi-xenon headlights come with an adaptive curve function that ensures excellent illumination of the road ahead.
Once again the Cayenne sets a new standard in the SUV category, this time with sheer power that provides the ultimate dynamic experience in this hugely popular segment.
