Porsche Doubling the New 911 Carrera Model RangeThe New 911 Carrera/Carrera S Cabriolet Arrival to the UAE

UAE. 25 April 2005 - Porsche has announced the arrival of the new 911 Carrera / Carrera S Cabriolet to Ali & Sons Co. LLC and Al Nabooda Automobiles LLC Porsche Centres, sole importers for Porsche in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively.

Now the aficionado of sports car motoring has the choice not only of the Carrera Coupé, but also the Carrera Cabriolet powered by a 325 bhp 3.6-litre Boxer engine as well as the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet featuring a 3.8-litre 355 bhp power unit. Benefiting from the intelligent lightweight technology, the open-air Carrera accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, the Carrera S completing the same exercise in 4.9 seconds.

Mohamed Rahman, Acting Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa said: “For more than 40 years this unique sports car has been thrilling car enthusiasts the world over. Anybody who just sees or hears a 911 will recognize the car immediately. The six-generation 911 continues a quite unique success story throughout the automotive industry. We strongly believe that customers in the UAE are eager to experience the latest version of the 911 Cabriolet in both its models”

Top speed is equally outstanding, with the Carrera reaching a top speed of 285 km/h, the Carrera S an even more impressive 293 km/h. Both models come with a six-speed manual gearbox conveying power to the rear wheels, with five-speed Tiptronic S available as an option.

In addition, the new convertibles come with an even wider range of standard equipment comprising, to mention just some examples, the Carrera Cabriolet running on 18-inch wheels in the Carrera Cabriolet and the 19-inch wheels in the Carrera S Cabriolet, PSM Porsche Stability management, and PCM Porsche Communication Management including Porsche Sound Package Plus (a CD radio with nine loudspeakers).

The optimised convertible roof opens and closes conveniently while driving up to a speed of 50 km/h. Together with the wind deflector featured as standard; the two Cabriolets offer absolutely excellent open-air driving comfort.

The new 911 Cabriolet not only fulfils the passive safety standards imposed in all countries in which the car is on sale, but easily outperforms the standards required by the lawmaker for head-on, offset, side-on and rear-end collisions, as well as a rollover. The superior safety is ensured, through enhanced body stiffness, the roll bar with the rollover elements moving up automatically when required, as well as the occupant safety system carefully geared to the car and its features. The six airbags include the driver and front passenger frontal airbags, thorax airbags in the outside of the front backrest, as well as one cushion-shaped head airbag in the doorsills specially designed for an open car and featured by Porsche for the first time worldwide as standard equipment

This is the first Carrera Cabriolet to offer four different types of seats ranging from the standard seats all the way to adaptive sports seats with adjustable side supports for the seats bottom and backrest.

It goes without saying that the Porsche Carrera Cabriolet offers supreme brake power and qualities of the highest standard. This is ensured by four-piston swing-caliper brakes on all four wheels applying all their power on cross-drilled, inner-vented high-performance brake discs. Equipped with an even larger brake system incorporating 330-millimetre brake disc on all four wheels, the Carrera S Cabriolet offers even greater stopping power.

“And let me tell you now that the two new Porsche 911 Cabriolets you will be seeing on the roads are just the starting point in a year full of surprises from Porsche. Hold your breath for more to come! “, added Rahman.
