Dubai. Porsche Middle East and Africa has exceeded all expectations in the 2006/07 business year, which ended on July 31st, as it registered yet another period of record growth.
With a 20 per cent increase in total sales of 5,330 cars over the previous year’s 4,419 units, these latest figures highlight Porsche’s continuing business success. What’s more, Porsche Middle East and Africa can celebrate its fifth consecutive year of double-digit growth, and a remarkable eighth year of record sales.
The new Porsche Cayenne maintained the charge of its forebear after several successful regional launch events. With a total of 3,467 units sold last year, compared to the previous financial year’s 3,006 vehicles, this resulted in an increase of 15 per cent.
Among the sport cars, it was encouraging to see that the Boxster, Cayman and 911 models all showed a growing demand. The Boxster and Cayman models totalled to 663 units, representing an 8.6 per cent increased, while with 1,195 unit sales from the 911 range, Porsche Middle East and Africa has demonstrated unprecedented growth of 60 per cent.
The Cayman S performed magnificently: from the previous year’s total of 339 units sold, this figure increased to 416 in FY 2006/07 – a rise of nearly 23 per cent. However, the greatest success came with the latest 911 Turbo model, of which 397 units were sold in the last financial year; more than the total amount of the last four years put together (386 units).
Deesch Papke, Managing Director of Porsche Middle East and Africa, is delighted at the success Porsche is enjoying in the region: “Once again, I am delighted by the performance of the Porsche Middle East and Africa region in setting yet another sales record. For eight years in a row we have surpassed expectations, and much of this is down to the ongoing support and dedication of our regional partners. We have enjoyed amazing results in the Middle East region since its establishment, and the future looks equally bright, particularly with several new products set for release in the coming years.”
On a global scale, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has registered yet another notable year, with revenues and sales once again reaching new records. According to recently released figures, Porsche once again announced a new sales record, up 0.7 per cent over the previous year’s figure, to 97,515 cars. Group revenues increased by an even greater margin of 3.4 per cent to a new all-time high of Euro 7.37 billion.
Meanwhile, Porsche is preparing for a new year of sales and releases, and the most recent product news is that the Boxster RS 60 Spyder was unveiled this month at the Bologna Motor Show. In its colour, design, features and philosophy, this new roadster brings back memories of Porsche’s golden motorsport era of the ‘Sixties, and most notably echoes the Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder of 1960, which would take on and beat competitors in larger engine categories. This special edition new Boxster will be limited to just 1,960 units, and will be available in the Middle East from March 2008.
Porsche is confident that sales in the coming year will at least match the exceptionally high level it enjoyed in FY 2006/07. With ongoing penetration into new markets, and an even more attractive model range that includes such exciting models as the 911 Turbo Cabriolet, the Cayenne GTS, the 911 GT2 and the Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1”, expectations are high. Porsche cars are in increasing demand in rapidly growing markets like the Middle East, and the Stuttgart carmaker expects its next major boost in growth to come in 2009, when the four-door Panamera ‘Gran Turismo’ is launched.
