An Adventure for the Whole FamilyFirst-Ever Cayenne Desert Camp
Dubai. 10 April 2005 - Porsche Middle East and Africa hosted the first-ever Cayenne Desert Camp, along with Ali & Sons Co. LLC and Al Nabooda Automobiles LLC, its sole importers in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively. For two exciting days by the end of March 2005, Porsche sports car and Cayenne drivers, including Porsche Club members, alike watched the desert sands of Dubai transform into a veritable playground. Porsche’s team of experts blazed a path through the UAE’s shifting sands to the Cayenne Desert Camp with a remarkable 100 participants and their families.
“At Porsche, we feel the necessity to share the Cayenne offroad experience with all Porsche aficionados and potential customers whom we would like to be part of this family. The Cayenne's exceptional performance on the road is perfectly supplemented by equally superior offroad driving qualities. This outstanding SUV, with all its three model variances, has supreme standards which words cannot describe, but must be experienced for yourself”, said Amaury La Fonta, Marketing Manager Porsche Middle East & Africa.
Upon arriving at the Cayenne Desert Camp, drivers tested their manoeuvrability skills on the obstacle course and then tested their adrenaline-thresholds dune bashing; while family members enjoyed their own desert adventures from sand-skiing, camel riding and quad biking to face-painting and bouncy castle. Each driving course lasted for an hour and with a fleet of 15 Cayenne cars in total, each individual participant was given the opportunity to drive.
In the obstacle course, drivers put the Cayenne through its paces, testing its superior traction control, suspension, Porsche Stability Management system (PSM) and engine braking. Once through the obstacle course, drivers’ skills were put to the test once again, but this time on the slalom track, where the Cayenne’s speed and agility proved to wow even the most dedicated sports-car enthusiasts.
Camper Nick Wood, who owns a 996 Turbo, has a newfound respect for the Cayenne’s abilities: “It was a fantastic experience,” he tells friends, “once you have driven a Cayenne, nothing else comes close.”
While those on the obstacle course weaved in, out and around the desert, another team of beginner, intermediate and advanced drivers bashed their way through the desert dunes, enjoying suspenseful ascents, exhilarating descents and breath-taking panoramas. With professional instructors on-hand, those climbing behind the wheel were able to experience the Cayenne’s magnificent handling in extreme conditions.
Camper Michel Gallon was also impressed by his day out: “We loved having an opportunity to drive in real desert conditions including its traps and difficulties. We really came to appreciate the amazing agility and qualities of the Cayenne, Cayenne S and Turbo…”
After two days of driving through the sun and sand, enjoying great food, making new friends and partaking in good old-fashioned family fun, one thing became certain to everyone involved: “This may have been the first Cayenne Desert Camp, but it certainly will not be the last! Stay tuned for more information on Cayenne Desert Camp 2”, La Fonta added.
