Character, profile and a clear standpoint: values that have long been part of the genetic code of the Cayman. And which find a very striking visual expression – in defined lines and edges, tight wheel openings and short overhangs, athletic proportions and a flat silhouette.

It is immediately obvious where the new Cayman models want to go. Every line and every technical detail is striving forwards. Every detail tells a story: one of character and an irrepressible forward momentum.

You need to be direct to follow your path. Sure. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in the curves. Especially not in the new Cayman. One reason for this is its new mid-mounted flat engine.

With its 2.7-liter displacement, the 6-cylinder engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus delivers 275 hp of power. Top track speed: 165 mph. With the standard, precisely graduated 6-speed manual transmission, the Cayman accelerates from 0 – 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds.

The new Cayman: Wouldn’t it be boring if the direct path was always straight.

Cayman S model

It is one thing to have an idea. To think it through to the end is quite another. Sometimes you have to give it everything. And with the new Cayman S we have done just that. With utter consistency. And success: its 3.4-liter, flat-six engine with DFI and VarioCam Plus delivers 325 hp. It accelerates from 0 – 60 mph in 4.7 s and boasts a top track speed of 175 mph. With optional PDK and the likewise optional Sport Chrono package, it can reach 60 mph in just 4.4 s.

With the new Cayman S we have given our all. As a matter of principle. Out of passion. And in anticipation of the next curve.

Inner strength, the will to move forward, and a clear standpoint: important prerequisites for building a sports car. And precisely the right requirements for its drive.

For this reason, the heart of the new Cayman models lies no more than 30 cm behind that of the driver, in the compact mid-mounted flat engine. The strengths of this unusual approach derive from the fact that a large proportion of the vehicle’s weight is near the center of the vehicle. The center of gravity is low and central, the weight equally distributed on the front and rear axles. Made tangible for you in the balanced vehicle handling and high mobility, particularly in curves.

Another advantage is that the mid-engine design gives the Cayman even more storage space. The front trunk has a capacity of 150 liters and is lined with black carpet. The convenient and functional trunk at the rear comprises the area above the engine cover and the luggage area behind it and will comfortably house even longer pieces of luggage, e.g. when transporting your sports equipment. The total volume is around 275 liters.

Both new Cayman models are equipped as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission that provides smooth, precise gearshifts and is optimally adapted to the relevant engine characteristics. Shift throws are short and the shifting forces low. For a sporty, direct driving experience. The upshift indicator in the center round instrument helps lower fuel consumption.

The completely redesigned 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), featuring both manual and automatic modes, is also available as an option. Advantages: Gear changes take place without interruptions in traction. Sharper shift programs and significantly shorter switching times produce better acceleration values compared to the manual transmission. Fuel consumption and comfort were also optimized and, with the appropriate driving style, enable early gear changes and thus the switch to more comfortable and economic speeds and the activation of coasting mode.

Exhaust system

The new Cayman models feature a separate stainless steel exhaust system per cylinder bank. Downstream of the relevant rear silencer, they open into a connecting tube and a tailpipe, which in the Cayman S is a twin tailpipe.

A sports exhaust system including sports tailpipe is available as an option for the new Cayman models. For an even richer Porsche sound.

Porsche Active Suspension Management

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)

The optional PASM, an electronic system for adjusting the shock absorber system, actively and continuously controls the damper force for each individual wheel, depending on the driving style and driving situation. In addition, the body has been lowered by 10 mm.

The system is always active in the background and automatically assists you without you having to switch it on. However, you can adjust the system to your desired driving style at the push of a button. Two programs are available for this: in Normal mode the suspension is sporty and comfortable, as compared to sporty and firm in Sport mode.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)

On the new Cayman models, the cross-drilled ceramic brake discs of the PCCB have a diameter of 350 mm at the front and rear – for even better braking power.

The use of the yellow six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers on the front axle and four-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers on the rear axle ensures very high and above all, constant brake pressure during deceleration.

It is ideally designed for short braking distances, particularly under high loads. Safety is also increased when braking from high speeds, thanks to the excellent fading stability of the PCCB.

Clear glass halogen headlights are fitted on the Cayman as standard. The Cayman S is equipped as standard with Bi-Xenon ™ headlights. In classic Cayman fashion, the circular front light units with LED daytime running lights and position lights are integrated in the front air intakes. The taillights also employ LED technology for increased visibility and an unmistakable appearance – day and night.

The optional Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), which comprises Bi-Xenon ™ headlights with halogen high-beam headlights, a headlight cleaning system and automatic dynamic range control, helps you by providing uniform illumination of the road with both low or high -beam headlights. The dynamic cornering light function swivels the main headlights towards the inside of a curve based on the steering angle and road speed. In addition, PDLS adapts light distribution to suit your current driving speed. This provides increased visibility – in the corners and at night.

Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)

The optional system for increasing dynamic performance and stability varies the distribution of torque to the rear wheels and includes a mechanical rear differential lock.

This means that when driving at speed into a curve, moderate brake pressure is applied to the inside rear wheel, providing additional angular momentum in the steering direction.

This ensures direct and dynamic steering into curves.

Sport Chrono Package

Sport Chrono Package

The optional Sport Chrono package enables an even sportier set-up for chassis, engine and transmission – accompanied by a much more emotive sound.

In addition to a performance display and a digital and analog stopwatch, the package also includes dynamic transmission mounts.

This electronically controlled system minimizes the oscillations and vibrations of the entire drive train, especially the engine.

Another component of the Sport Chrono package is the SPORT PLUS button. If this is activated, the optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) switches into Sport mode: for harder damping and more direct steering. And more intensive road contact.

You will feel very much at ease in the completely redesigned interior of the new Cayman models. Because here everything has only one objective: to move forward in sporty comfort. The driver is optimally integrated in the vehicle. The elevated center console ensures a short path for your hand between gear lever and steering wheel – so you can shift gears ergonomically and quickly. The individual controls are clearly arranged. All buttons and functions of the on-board computer are intuitively accessible. Allowing you to concentrate fully on the road.

In short, also in terms of its design, the new Cayman holds a clear line. It gets the individual touches from you: we provide you with a comprehensive range of personalization options and a large selection of colors and materials. In this way the new Cayman becomes your Cayman.

The standard sport seats are comfortable and provide support even when the car is driven hard into corners. Electric backrest adjustment and manual height and fore/aft adjustment are integrated as standard.

If you don’t want to sacrifice sportiness for comfort, the optional power sport seats offer fully electric adjustment of seat height, backrest angle, squab angle and cushion depth. Also electrically operated are the fore/aft adjustment, four-way lumbar support and even the steering column. The included memory package supports a range of settings, including both exterior mirrors and all driver’s seat and steering wheel positions.

Steering wheels

The standard sports steering wheel with the 3-spoke design can be adjusted axially up to 60 mm and vertically up to 40 mm. In combination with the optional PDK, it also features two ergonomic shift buttons.

The optional multi-function steering wheel offers additional comfort with its four function buttons and two rocker switches, which can be easily used to operate any audio, telephone and navigation functions.

Its double-spoke design sets the SportDesign steering wheel (available on request) apart from the standard steering wheel. It also provides good grip for sporty driving. In combination with the PDK, it features two solid alloy shift paddles, positioned ergonomically behind the right and left steering wheel spokes.

Sound system

Sound system

The BOSE® Surround Sound System has 8 amplifier channels. 10 loudspeakers including an active subwoofer, which is integrated behind the dashboard in the vehicle bodyshell, provide for balanced sound characteristics and a total output of 445 watts.

The result is well-balanced, faithful sound reproduction creating a fascinating spatial 360° sound experience.

One can integrate a sound system in a vehicle. Or go one step further – and embed the driver in a sound system. This was the goal that Porsche and Burmester® set themselves when developing the optional Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System. It was specially designed and tailored for the new Cayman – high-end technology, made in Germany.

The components used are of a high quality level comparable to the high-end home audio systems from Burmester®. Here are the relevant figures: 12 amplifier channels with 821 watts total output, 12 loudspeakers including active subwoofer.

The result is an unprecedented rich and natural surround sound, even at high volumes.
