From the very first Porsche to a race winning legend to a super car, the new Boxster has been inspired by some of the most iconic Porsches ever made. And engineered to become a legend all its own.

The very first production Porsche, the famed 356-1, was a roadster. Its spirit lives on in the new Boxster. Let it influence yours.

The "Giant Killer" earned its nickname and championships with efficient use of power. The new Boxster takes efficiency even further.

Precision was a hallmark of the RSK, and its race-winning legacy. The legacy continues in the new Boxster.

Automotive design took a bold step forward with the Carrera GT. The new Boxster follows in its footsteps.

The exterior design of the new Boxster draws inspiration from a rich history. The side air intakes are reminiscent of the 550 Spyder. The new Boxster design also incorporates the sum of our ideas of how the future should be. Every muscle of the car is toned, flexed and waiting to be driven.

The vertical contour of the headlights was inherited from Porsche race cars of the 1970s. Large, imposing air intakes give the front a powerful appearance. The long wheelbase and low, raked windshield are integral to forming the stretched, wedge-shaped silhouette.

The distinctive wings give further emphasis to the wheels and, in combination with the side air intakes, to the mid-engine layout. Such features are reminiscent of the 718 RS 60 Spyder, a lightweight mid-engined Sports Car that achieved success in endurance racing and hill-climbing championships alike.

The rear wing is not only a visual treat, it deploys automatically at 75 mph to reduce lift. Aerodynamics and aesthetics are combined to superb effect. Retracted, the spoiler separation edge makes a seamless transition to the LED tail lights.

Think a sense of freedom isn’t available at the push of a button? Think again. The new Boxster models are equipped as standard with a fully electric convertible top. With the engine running, the opening and closing processes are completed in around 9 seconds. The convertible top is operable up to a speed of 31 mph.

Ultimately, the feeling of freedom comes from within. The interior of the new Boxster models is purposefully designed as a declaration of independence.

The ignition lock, as ever, is on the left. The 3-spoke sports steering wheel falls perfectly to hand. As is typical of a Boxster, there are 3 circular dashboard instruments.

The instrument on the right is now a high-resolution 4.6-inch TFT color screen that shows information from the on-board computer, communication and audio settings or the navigation system map when used in conjunction with the optional PCM.

The geometric form of the cockpit follows a clear direction: forwards. The elevated center console integrates the driver optimally into the vehicle by positioning the gearshift lever extremely close to the steering wheel.

The standard sport seats are comfortable and provide excellent support even during performance driving.

The optional sport seats Plus are upholstered in smooth-finish leather. The side bolsters of the seat squab and backrest are more prominently defined and have firmer, more sporty padding for even better lateral support.

The optional fully electric sport seats offer adjustment of seat height, backrest angle, squab angle and squab depth. Also electrically operated are the fore/aft adjustment and 4-way lumbar support.

Offering 18-way fully electric adjustment, the seats can be optimally adapted to meet your needs in terms of seat height, squab and backrest angle, squab length, fore/aft adjustment and 4-way lumbar support.

At Porsche, the mid-mounted boxer engine is more than a tradition, it is a legend. The 550 Spyder and 718 RS 60 Spyder are renowned examples of its use. The mid-mounted engine belongs at Porsche and it belongs in the Boxster. Delivering enhanced performance combined with greater efficiency, it is an engine concept for the future.

The mid-mounted engine belongs at Porsche and it belongs in the Boxster. The advantages speak for themselves. The concentration of mass close to the center of the vehicle and the low center of gravity produce extraordinary agility and cornering dynamics. At the same time, weight is uniformly distributed between the front and rear axles and handling characteristics are particularly well balanced. The result is high cornering speeds while maintaining excellent control over the vehicle.

The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 265 hp at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque is 206 lb.-ft.. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it reaches a top track speed of 162 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
The Boxster S is powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus and develops 315 hp at 6,700 rpm. The maximum torque of 266 lb.-ft. is produced at 4,500 rpm. With optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 172 mph.

The new Boxster models are equipped as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission that provides smooth gearshifts and is optimally adapted to the respective engine map. Shift throws are short and the shift forces are low. This means short shifting times and a sporty, direct driving experience.

Available as an option for the new Boxster models is a completely retuned 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), featuring both manual and automatic modes. In total, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) has a total of 7 gears at its disposal. Gears 1 to 6 have sporty ratios and top track speed is reached in 6th gear. 7th gear has a long ratio and reduces engine speed for lower fuel consumption. The advantages are good move-off performance, extremely fast gear changes with no interruption in the flow of power, improved acceleration over the manual transmission, very short response times, reduced fuel consumption and a distinct increase in comfort.

A widely held belief about motor sports is that power is the only thing that matters. From experience, we know better. Extra horsepower alone has never been enough to win a single race. Much more important to us are ideas – ideas that inspire more intelligent vehicle concepts and more efficient drive systems. This same applies to the road. It’s about getting the most out of what you’ve got. We do this with Porsche Intelligent Performance.

The Auto Start Stop function, which is integrated as standard in the new Boxster models, switches off the engine automatically when, for example, you stop at traffic lights, select neutral and release the clutch pedal. The engine will restart as soon as you operate the clutch. This fuel-saving innovation is designed primarily for use in towns or congested freeway traffic.

The coasting function available with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) enables you to save even more fuel where the situation allows. The engine is decoupled from the transmission to prevent deceleration caused by engine braking. In this way, optimum use is made of the vehicle’s momentum, allowing it to coast for longer distances.
For example, you may want to slow down from 60 mph to 50 mph. As you ease off the accelerator pedal, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) disengages the current gear automatically and you begin to coast in neutral until you have reached the desired speed. As soon as you operate the accelerator or brake pedal, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) re-engages the appropriate gear within fractions of a second.

The bodyshell of the new Boxster models is based on an intelligent lightweight principle involving the composite construction of aluminum and steel. The use of dissimilar but precisely combined components makes it possible to utilize specific material properties exactly where they are needed. Not only does this provide a high level of safety for the driver, it offers a considerable weight saving compared with the bodyshell of the previous model. This is why the doors of both luggage compartment lids are made from lightweight aluminum.

Even when you want to make a break from everyday life, you should still keep your feet on the ground.

Optional PASM, the electronic damping control system, suits the new Boxster models down to the ground. PASM actively and continuously regulates the damper force for each wheel according to the road conditions and driving style. In addition, the body is lowered by 10 mm.

Enhanced Porsche Stability Management (PSM) is fitted as standard. This system automatically maintains stability even at the limits of dynamic driving performance. Sensors continuously monitor the direction of travel, vehicle speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration. Using this information, PSM calculates the actual direction of movement. Under acceleration on different road surfaces, PSM improves traction – as well as agility and safety – using the automatic brake differential (ABD) and anti-slip regulation (ASR).

The optional system for increasing dynamic performance and stability varies the distribution of torque to the rear wheels and includes a mechanically locking rear differential. At low and medium vehicle speeds, PTV significantly increases agility and steering precision. At high speeds and when accelerating out of corners, the rear differential lock ensures greater driving stability. The results are remarkable stability, easier handling and outstanding traction as well as greater agility at every speed with precise steering and stable load transfer characteristics. And, of course, lots of excitement at every twist and turn.

Dynamic transmission mounts are included as part of the optional Sport Chrono Package. They are designed to enhance both performance and comfort. This electronically controlled system minimizes the oscillations and vibrations of the entire drive train, especially the engine.

Put more simply: when you are driving into a bend, the vehicle will follow your steering but, at first, the mass of the drive train will not. This means that the rear of the vehicle will ultimately be pushed outwards as a result of the drive train’s force of inertia. Dynamic transmission mounts minimize this effect. Steering angle and both longitudinal and lateral acceleration are constantly recorded by sensors. The stiffness and damping performance of the transmission mounts adapt to changes in driving style and road surface conditions, which is achieved by use of a fluid with magnetic properties. This results in greater traction and perceptibly more stable handling under load change conditions.

The Boxster and Boxster S are equipped with 4-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at the front and rear. This design means that not only are the brakes extremely resistant to deformation, they are also lightweight for a particularly fast and sensitive braking response. The new generation of brake caliper at the front axle, combined with enlarged brake pads and the newly developed brake booster, has managed to improve braking and component stability even during continuous use.

From the start, Porsche has been synonymous with motor sports. Ever since 1948, when we found our identity on the racetrack, we have taken the experience we have gained and applied it to the road. The optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is a fine example. This brake system has already had to cope with the harshest requirements of motor racing in demanding events such as the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

The key advantage of PCCB is the extremely low weight of the ceramic brake discs, which are approximately 50% lighter than comparable gray cast iron discs of similar design and size. As well as enhancing performance and fuel economy, this represents a major reduction in unsprung and rotating masses. The consequence of this is better road holding and increased comfort, particularly on uneven roads, as well as greater agility and improved handling.

One definition of efficiency is a system that works only when it is needed, and then does so in a particularly effective way. This was the guiding principle for our engineers in the development of the new electromechanical steering system. Whereas a conventional hydraulically assisted steering system draws engine power continuously, the electric motor in the electromechanical arrangement uses energy only when the steering wheel is actually turned. As a result, fuel consumption is reduced and the absence of hydraulic fluid eliminates the need for servicing, both of which also have benefits for the environment.

Time is precious and every hundredth of a second counts. The optional Sport Chrono package makes your driving experience even better thanks to an even sportier tuning of accelerator pedal, throttle response and handling characteristics. The package comprises dynamic transmission mounts, a performance display, a digital and analogue stopwatch and the SPORT PLUS button. When this is pressed, optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) switches to Sport mode for harder damping and more direct steering and therefore even more intensive road holding.

Agility is perceptibly enhanced when braking for corners with PSM, allowing even sportier braking and exit acceleration.

At Porsche, we don’t build everyday Sports Cars – we build Sports Cars for everyday use. How? By understanding that great agility and maximum comfort are not mutually exclusive but are, in fact, aspects of a harmonious overall concept.

The 2 luggage compartments are further proof that the Boxster harmoniously combines the spirit of sport with everyday practicality like never before. The front and rear compartments have a capacity of 150 and 130 liters respectively, regardless of whether the convertible top is up or down. The interior surfaces are carpet-lined and the lids are made from aluminum. The two service openings in the rear luggage compartment provide convenient access to the coolant and engine oil filler caps.

Dual roll-over protection creates survival space in the event of a roll-over or side impact. The front roll-over protection element is made from super and ultra high-strength steels. The rear roll-over bars located behind the seats are a composite construction of aluminum and steel. They are fully trimmed to blend in and provide an excellent level of safety.

The CDR audio system is an ideal complement to the resonant engine sound of the new Boxster models. It features a 7-inch color touchscreen. For an even more intense listening experience, the CDR audio system can be combined with the Sound Package Plus or the BOSE® Surround Sound System on request.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is the central control unit for audio, navigation and communication. It is powerful and multifunctional, yet easy to operate. The focal point is the intuitive 7-inch touchscreen. If you require route guidance, need to make a phone call or want to listen to the radio, then why not just say so? Almost all of the functions of PCM can be controlled using the optional voice control system. And with optional electronic logbook, telephone module, TV tuner and universal audio interface, the possibilities with PCM are virtually endless.

The optional BOSE® Surround Sound System really strikes a chord. Developed specifically for Porsche, it is optimally tuned for the interior of the new Boxster models. The high-end sound system has 8 amplifier channels. Its 10 loudspeakers, including an active subwoofer, deliver a balanced acoustic pattern with a total output of 445 watts.
The BOSE® Centerpoint® 2 technology produces surround sound for digital recordings at the push of a button. The AudioPilot® Noise Compensation Technology uses a microphone to continuously measure the ambient noise inside the vehicle and adapts music playback automatically so that a consistent sound is maintained – whatever the driving conditions.
