The 911 concept follows a clear design idiom: The roof line tapers down dynamically to the rear. The fenders are particularly pronounced at the front and rear, the headlights are round. Together, these features make the 911 sports car unmistakable, even after 50 years.
These principles apply in equal measure to the 911 Targa 4. Its visual and technological uniqueness, however, are attributable to its innovative roof concept. The elegantly rounded rear window and the characteristic bar already lent the original Targa a lightness that inspired designers far beyond the field of vehicle construction.
With the new 911 Targa 4, our designers sought and found a direct path from the distinctly individual style of the original Targa to the sportiness that characterizes the 911 right up to the current 7th generation: an even flatter silhouette, clear lines and an extended wheelbase for greater driving stability. But above all, the revolutionary roof concept, which, rather than clashing with the enhanced design idiom of the 911, blends in with it to form a harmonious unit. For a design that exudes timelessness, but can be experienced moment-for-moment.
The profile view shows that the new 911 Targa 4 models also adopt the distinctive silhouette of the 911. The aluminum bar with the characteristic vents and the “targa” logo provide an additional, striking accent.
Allow us to close with the words of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the original designer of the 911: "A formally harmonious product needs no decoration; it should be elevated through pure form." That just about says it all.

Design at Porsche is always more than a just a shell with good looks. Design always has a function.
The 911 Targa 4 follows this maxim from the word go. With a roof construction that takes the 1963 911 Coupe to a new aesthetic level that makes open-top driving a most viable proposition. With the new 911 Targa 4, we respond with a concept that our engineers refer to as a “fully automatic roof system with innovative kinematics”. What sounds a little clunky is in fact quite the opposite: The new system is based on a complex and extremely robust technical solution that allows the roof to be opened and closed fully automatically in 20 seconds when the vehicle is stationary. It folds up elegantly behind the rear seat system to create a visually perfect impression.
The result is a driving experience akin to that in an open-top Sports Car, with the driving feel and driving comfort of a 911 Coupe. A sort of sculpture? Certainly. But a moving one – in every sense of the word.
The roof materials are just as pioneering as the roof concept itself. 2 flat elements made from magnesium provide for optimum tensioning of the fabric top, the profile of which exhibits the distinctive silhouette of the 911. The heated rear window is made from weight-optimized laminated safety glass. Together with the noise-insulating roof liner, it ensures an incredibly low level of driving noise when the top is closed.
The roll-over resistance provided by The Targa Bar steel protection system provides increased body rigidity helping keep all four tires firmly on the ground and increased structural support in the event of a rollover. Not to mention the design aspect, which references the classic shapes of the original Targa. The same applies to the details: the side vents and the “targa” logo.

Performance and comfort, every single day.
The 3.4 liter flat six engine of the new 911 Targa 4 develops 350 hp at 7400 rpm. Its maximum torque of 287 lb.-ft. is available at 5600 rpm. With its 7-speed manual transmission, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 175 mph.
With the S-model, the data speaks for itself: 3.8 liter flat engine, 400 hp at 7400 rpm and a maximum torque of 325 lb.-ft. achieved at 5600 rpm. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the new 911 Targa 4S sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and can accelerate up to a top track speed of 182 mph. 0-60 drops to 4.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package when utilizing launch control.
The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) (standard on the 911 Targa 4S, optional on the 911 Targa 4) for sporty-comfortable or sporty-rigid damping all along the way. Just as you please. For greater driving stability, more comfort and better performance.
With the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), you can keep your cool, even when the bends come thick and fast. PDCC – optionally available for the new 911 Targa 4S – is a system for active anti-roll stabilization. It minimizes lateral inclination of the vehicle during cornering. In addition, it minimizes the lateral instability of the vehicle on uneven ground. What are the benefits? Improved driving dynamics and greater comfort on the road.
With a Porsche, it’s not only the beautiful shell, but also what it contains that matters. Since 1963, the engines have always been crucial to the 911 sports car. In the new 911 Targa 4 models, these are flat-six units installed at the very rear of the vehicle. Performance and efficiency are no contradiction here, they are combined into a single principle. Otherwise, how could power output be increased while also cutting down on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions?
With the new 911 Targa 4 models, the enhanced Porsche Traction Management (PTM) installed as standard ensures the correct power distribution between the front and rear axles, for excellent propulsion in every driving situation: whether on long straights, in tight curves or on surfaces with varying levels of grip.
The interior of a 911 is no follower of fashion. It follows clear principles. Principles which also apply to the new 911 Targa 4 models: The interior design is sporty, the layout is classic and the equipment high-end. There are no distractions or gimmicks. Everything is tailored to the driver and the task of driving. Only in this way can a sporty style – or what could even be called the art of Sports Car design – become reality.
The materials are high quality and stylish. The steering wheel rim, door handles, armrests and parts of the seats are in leather. In addition to the standard colors Black, Platinum Gray, Luxor Beige and Yachting Blue, many individualization options are available with two-tone interiors and special colors, or materials such as carbon, aluminum and wood.
