The perfect companion on a journey in the Scottish Highlands?
There can be only one – a Porsche.
The Scottish Highlands have provided the impressive backdrop for many a big Hollywood blockbuster, the most famous of which is the legendary Highlander series. In real life too, they offer a movie-like setting with ancient castle ruins on the shores of deep blue lakes, endless lush valleys, jagged mountains, and an incredible coastline with hidden bays and tranquil fishing villages. All that’s missing is the main character. One that exudes the same genuine sense of boundless freedom as the landscape itself. There can be only one to play this starring role: a Porsche – with you at the wheel.
Upon arrival at Edinburgh Airport, you will be greeted and taken to the five-star Balmoral Hotel. In the evening, relax over a welcome dinner in preparation for the days ahead.
After breakfast, take to the wheel of your Porsche and set off for the West Highlands, passing plenty of moors on your way to the majestic Loch Lomond. Stop for lunch at Cameron House situated on the shores of Scotland’s largest lake.
The tour continues along the edge of the lake, following the road as it carves its way upwards in long, sweeping curves. The ideal terrain for anyone driving a Porsche – and for increasing your endorphin levels. Close to Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, is your destination for the night: Inverlochy Castle Hotel. Scotland’s finest luxury hotel, it is set in a fantastic location amidst the valleys, lakes and mountains of the West Highlands. The late afternoon is free to spend as you please – exploring this prestigious hotel, for example.
Today, you can look forward to exploring perhaps the most beautiful, and certainly the most prominent road in Scotland, the A87. After around one hour, you arrive at your first destination: the famous Eilean Donan Castle, which you explore on a guided tour. After a leisurely break, it’s time for another highlight: the journey across the Bealach na Ba, an incredibly high and spectacular pass. This steep, single-track road with tight hairpin bends and breathtaking views of the mountains on the Isle of Skye promises one thing above all else: unadulterated driving pleasure. Break for lunch at the cosy Applecross Inn on the peninsula of the same name where local specialities and genuine Scottish hospitality abound. Take to the wheel again for the drive along the coast to your hotel for the night: the luxury Torridon Hotel, idyllically situated on the shores of a lake.
Once again, you set off along the winding roads through the breathtaking highland scenery. A culinary highlight awaits you in Ullapool – lunch at The Arch Inn. Continue along Scotland’s spectacular west coast until you reach the most northerly point of the tour: the Inver Lodge Hotel in Lochinver, set in the heart of one of Europe’s last remaining unspoilt wildernesses. Round off this eventful day’s driving and a host of fascinating impressions relaxing over dinner in the hotel’s Chez Roux restaurant. Enjoy the sea views as you peruse the menu.
Could there be anything more exhilarating than driving a Porsche through the incredible landscape of the Scottish Highlands? Possibly not. However, the country certainly has much more to offer than spectacular roads. After lunch, you can take a guided tour of the Dalmore whisky distillery in Alness. Naturally, your route also takes you along the shores of the famous Loch Ness and on to your next port of call: the Rocpool Reserve Hotel in Inverness, named Boutique Hotel and Style Hotel of the Year in 2013 by the Scottish Hotel Awards. Round off an enjoyable day of driving and culture in the evening with dinner with the group in the hotel’s restaurant, followed by a whisky tasting.
Today’s leg of the tour takes you south along the Malt Whisky Trail through the Spey Valley. More than half of all Scottish malt whisky distilleries can be found here. Break for lunch before crossing the Cairnwell Pass. Upon arrival at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, it’s unfortunately time to hand back the keys to your Porsche. However, you will be left with a wealth of memories to cherish for years to come. Round off your tour with a visit to the centre of Edinburgh. Relax over dinner with the group at The Witchery restaurant and take the opportunity to review the experiences of the past few days.
A leisurely breakfast followed by the return transfer to Edinburgh Airport for your individual departure time. If you wish to extend your stay with a golfing break, for example, we will be happy to help you with your planning.
