Porsche organises the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for private teams, who generally enter two race cars for the championship. The Porsche 911, the sprint format of the race and the exclusive frame of the F1 weekends make the Supercup an attractive racing series for professionals and rookie drivers. This series is regarded as a launching pad for careers in sports car (ALMS, FIA GT) and touring car racing.

The participants in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup are professional racing teams which enter two race cars at a minimum and three race cars maximum to contest the championship.

Occasionally, guest teams can take part in selected events with a minimum of two, maximum of three race cars.
