Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is honouring the life’s work of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche with a special exhibition in the Porsche Museum. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG, opened the special exhibition on Friday, 1 June 2012, in the presence of Porsche and Piëch family members. Also present were the Executive Board members and representatives of Porsche AG, of Porsche Holding Salzburg and of Volkswagen AG, guests of honour from business and politics as well as companions and former colleagues of F.A. Porsche. The Honorary President of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG died in Salzburg on 5 April 2012, aged 76.

The special exhibition does not merely showcase the life’s work of the brilliant designer, who created legendary cars such as the 904 Carrera GTS and the Porsche 911. The primary focus is on F.A. Porsche the man. Right from his early childhood, F.A. Porsche was fascinated by cars, spending a great deal of time in the engineering offices and development workshops of his grandfather, Ferdinand Porsche. Later, in addition to his family, he dedicated himself passionately to hunting and nature as well as photography. This means that, for the first time, visitors will get to see personal belongings and private photographs from the Porsche family collection. These include his hiking equipment, a selection from his collection of pipes, watches and cameras as well as a home-made sled he designed for his children.

In addition to the numerous personal small exhibits, the Porsche Museum is also putting two of his personal cars on show: the first Porsche 904 Carrera GTS and the 911 Carrera 3.2 with special interior. He enjoyed frequent drives in both vehicles throughout his life. The special exhibition also presents his creative period in the engineering office and in the “Porsche Design Studio” which he relocated to Zell am See two years after it was founded. On view, for example, are classic gentleman’s accessories such as watches, spectacles and writing implements bearing the unmistakable F.A. Porsche signature and which became familiar around the world under the “Porsche Design” brand he established.
