- A visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park
Croatia – the land of a thousand islands with its crystal-clear waters, picturesque fishing villages and small harbour towns in bays along the Adriatic coast, as well as the Istrian peninsula known as the ‘Tuscany of Croatia’. In its vineyards, olive groves and truffle regions, there’s a wealth of culinary delights to discover.
Other characteristic features of Istria include winding mountain roads and spectacular coastal stretches, parts of which are used for rally racing. The ideal location, therefore, for an unforgettable seaside holiday – at the wheel of a Porsche with the wind in your hair.
Individual travel to Zagreb airport where you will be greeted and taken to the Regent Esplanade Zagreb. Built in 1925, this 5-Star hotel is located in the heart of the city and is considered as one of its most famous and splendid buildings. Since its opening, it has always been at the centre of social life in Zagreb, playing host to many famous guests including presidents, politicians, film stars and musicians. In the evening, we invite you to enjoy the very first highlight of your tour: a welcome dinner at the Zinfandel Restaurant – one of the finest dining establishments in Croatia.
Straight after breakfast, it’s time to take to the wheel of a Porsche to experience pure, unadulterated driving pleasure. Set off along the motorway to Karlovac, before continuing into the mountainous region of Gorski kotar where the route is lined with spruce and beech forests, tranquil lakes and raging rivers. Follow the winding mountain roads until you reach the chic seaside resort of Opatija, also called the ‘Nice of the Adriatic’. Stop off for lunch at the evanda gourmet restaurant, sitting on a terrace right by the sea. Afterwards, you head south along the coast to Rovinj. Croatia’s most romantic city, it has earned itself the nickname ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Spend the night at the 5-Star boutique hotel, Monte Mulini. Offering sophisticated design and an extraordinary ambience, the hotel is situated right by the crystal blue sea in a picturesque bay.
On the boat trip over to the island of St. Andrews for dinner at the Lanterna Restaurant, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Rovinj archipelago. The breathtaking display of colour in the skies at dusk creates a magical backdrop.
Today, you set off in your Porsche to explore Istria’s lush hinterland, an area of countryside that strongly resembles that of Tuscany. The region is renowned, in particular, for specialities such as wine, olive oil and truffles. And one more thing: winding mountain roads, parts of which are used for rally racing. Drive through the Istrian hills to the world’s smallest town, Hum. There has been no new construction within the town’s original fortifications since the 11th century.
The tour then continues on to Livade where you can savour a selection of truffle dishes at the famous Zigante Restaurant. Since the world’s largest truffle weighing 1.3 kg was discovered here by Mr. Zigante, Livade has become an international centre for this culinary delicacy. Afterwards, the route takes you along narrow serpentine roads, past vineyards and olive groves, to the Kabola winery. From here, you can marvel at incredible panoramic views of the Alps, the Dolomites and the ocean. Enjoy an olive oil tasting before heading back to the coast for Rovinj. Dinner is served at the hotel’s elegant restaurant, which provides a stylish setting in which to review your experiences of the day.
In the morning, you set off on narrow country roads to the east coast. The subsequent journey along the coastal road is a real treat for any Porsche enthusiast. From the steep cliffs you can enjoy breathtaking views of the turquoise water of the Adriatic. Continue on through Opatija to Selce. Your destination for the night is right by the sea: the 5-Star Amabilis Hotel, which opened in 2012.
Today, it’s time to say farewell. Not from your Porsche, fortunately, but from the coast. You then set off through the hilly countryside, arriving around lunchtime at the Plitvice Lakes National Park with its glistening turquoise waters, raging rapids and spectacular waterfalls. You’ll also discover an endless wealth of flora and fauna. This true natural paradise consists of 16 lakes, large and small, connected by waterfalls. The park has provided the setting for several Winnetou films and has been designated a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
After lunch, the tour continues through the mountains to the motorway which takes you back to Zagreb and your hotel for the final night, the Regent Esplanade.
Sadly, it really is now time to bid a final farewell to your Porsche. Breakfast at the hotel followed by transfer to the airport for your individual departure time.
