Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, sold slightly less vehicles in North America in May 2004 than it did in May last year. In total, 2,857 units were supplied to customers in the USA and Canada; compared to the 3,238 vehicles in the same month last year, this corresponds to a decrease of 12 percent.
The decrease is marked by the noticeably weaker sales of the Boxster, of which 435 vehicles (minus 41 percent) were supplied to customers. On the one side, the Boxster got to feel that the roadster market in North America remains strained. On the other side, sales of the Boxster are decreasing due to its life-cycle – the roadster is now already in its eighth production year.
The 911 however has again done remarkably. Despite the fact that the successive generation of the Porsche classic is already in the starting blocks and has also been advertized in North America for weeks, 928 of the 911 vehicles were sold in May. Compared to last year, this is a decline of merely nine percent. As yet unbroken is also the trend toward the higher-priced model variants of the 911 production series which has a positive effect on the model mix. The sales level of the Cayenne was also pleasing. More than one year after the market introduction of the sporty off-roader in North America, sales have remained practically stable with 1,475 vehicles supplied (last year: 1,479 units).
