In 2002, the Hockenheimring was shortened to approx. 4.6 kilometres (2.9 miles) and completely redesigned. Although this meant that it lost the long straight into the former eastern corner, it gained some interesting and exhilarating new bends. Its demanding sections provide the ideal setting for covering all aspects of a driving safety course. The circuit features some tight bends similar to winding single-carriageway roads. Large safety zones guarantee maximum protection during every practice manoeuvre.
