At the end of the 90s, Porsche was the driving force behind the Renaissance of international Gran Turismo (GT) motor sport. Since then, it has established a successful collaboration with customer teams: Porsche customer teams regularly garner victories and championships in numerous GT championships and important long-distance races.
The 911 GT3 RSR, which was specially developed for long-distance races, is used in the GT2 classes in races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps and international GT series like the American Le Mans Series, the European Le Mans Series and the FIA GT championship. The long-distance racers also take part in the Spanish, British and French GT championships.
With the 911 GT3 R, Porsche now offers a race car specially developed for the GT3 class. The 911 GT3 R is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September 2009 for one-make cup racing. Thanks to a 0.2-litre increase in engine capacity, the GT3 R delivers 30 hp more than its Cup pendant. This vehicle races in the FIA GT3 European championship and national GT3 series, such as the ADAC GT Masters.
