Stuttgart. In the 2005 calendar year, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, sold more vehicles in North America than ever before in the company’s history. A total of 33,859 vehicles were delivered to customers in the USA and Canada – two percent more than the previous year figure of 33,289 units. Even though deliveries of the Cayenne declined by 24 percent, the sporty all-terrain vehicle still took the largest share of unit sales with 14,524 vehicles. Of the 911, 10,653 vehicles were sold (plus four percent), while the Boxster with a plus of 123 percent to 8,327 units posted the strongest growth momentum. 355 units of the Carrera GT were delivered (previous year: 200 vehicles).
Porsche not only concluded the whole of the 2005 year successfully, but also the final month of last year. Sales increased in December by four percent to 2,944 units. Growth was driven by sports cars. Supplies of the 911 increased by ten percent to 953 units and of the Boxster by as much as 384 percent to 484 vehicles. 20 units of the Carrera GT were sold after 29 vehicles in the previous year. With 1,487 vehicles, the Cayenne remained 19 percent below the figure of the previous year.
The declining sales figures for the Cayenne are due largely to the fact that Porsche would rather relinquish market share than jeopardize the brand image and the value retention of vehicles by offering discounts, as many competitors are doing. At the same time, the sporty all-terrain vehicle plays a key role in the model range of the manufacturer of premium sporty vehicles. Just recently, Porsche again underlined the importance of the Cayenne. The new Cayenne Turbo S celebrated its world premier at the Los Angeles Motor Show and is to be exhibited at the Detroit Motor Show.
The new top model of the Cayenne series with its 521 HP is the second most powerful road vehicle after the Carrera GT ever built by Porsche and the most sporty, and powerful model in the sport utility vehicle segment. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and achieves a top speed of 270 km/h.
But it is not only its outstanding performance that characterizes the Cayenne Turbo S. On show are also technical innovations and exclusive equipment. The Cayenne Turbo S lettering on the tailgate, the entrance strips and the center console optically highlight that this is the new top model of the Cayenne series. The global market launch is at the end of January 2006. The net base price in Europe is EUR 101,200, including sales tax the price in Germany is EUR 117,573.
