The 35th AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix at the Nürburgring which took place from 10 to 12 August provided an ideal opportunity to gain a thorough insight into the Porsche legend.Over 65,000 visitors came to the event to see approximatly 650 historical racing cars in action. This year’s event will go down in history because the participants had to wait until Saturday morning for the fog to finally clear. All races on Friday had to be cancelled. Over the next two days, however, the visitors were spoiled with gorgeous sunshine.
Together with numerous other departments of the company, the Customer Center-Classic made its presentation on a 14,000 square-metre area reserved for Porsche. This year, its focal point was an exhibition of eight engines dating from 1966 to 1998. The engines were on show in the exhibition tent in the Porsche area and open to anyone attending the Oldtimer-Grand-Prix.The half side partly restored 110 bhp engine of a 911 T 2.0 (model years 1968-1969) was a rare treat. The cutaway model of a 300 bhp 3.3 litre turbo engine (model years 1983-1989) with transmission, exhaust system and K-Jetronic provided an additional interesting view of the inner workings of a Porsche engine. With this exhibition, the Customer Center-Classic demonstrated its competence with regard to engines. The Exclusive and Tequipment department presented the Porsche accessories range and the employees of the worldwide Club Coordination of Porsche AG and Porsche Germany were available to answer any questions about Porsche Clubs.
At the area reserved for Porsche, purchasers of a VIP package were ferried to the parking areas laid out according to model. This year there were more than 480 Porsche vehicles – representing almost the entire history of the brand – to view and admire.Immediately next to the exhibition tent, a 50-metre crane gave visitors the opportunity to be lifted high above the crowd for a magnificent view of the entire event grounds.Over the course of the weekend, the Porsche Hospitality tent catered for the physical well-being of more than 800 guests. An evening event - a barbecue - was also held here on Saturday. Many attractive prizes were up for grabs in both a quiz and a tombola. And finally, the evening was rounded off with live music, which created a relaxed ambience in the tent.
