Legendary new 911 Carrera shines at Auto Guangzhou 2011Next generation of sports car icon makes Asia debut

Shanghai/Guangzhou. The new 911 Carrera fascinated crowds of Porsche enthusiasts at its Asia premiere at Auto Guangzhou 2011, held at the Pazhou Complex of the China Import and Export Fair. More than half a million visitors are expected over the course of this year’s exhibition, with hundreds of local and international media attending the Porsche press conference on November 21, followed by the show’s opening to the public from November 22-28. This annual highlight for motoring enthusiasts draws big names to southern China every year: Hong Kong model Ana R and Hong Kong singer and TV host Paisley Hu were among the celebrities to make appearances at the ever-glamorous Porsche stand. The combination of high-profile international celebrities and signature Porsche style made the highly-anticipated launch of the new generation 911 one of the most celebrated events of the show.

Porsche brings the full range of its models, exhibiting ten premium cars this year at Auto Guangzhou. The new 911 Carrera S is joined by the Boxster S; the Cayman Black Edition; the 911 Turbo S; the Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo; and the Panamera 4S, Panamera Turbo S and the soon-to-be-launched Panamera S Hybrid. The line-up of leading Porsche models represents perfectly the renowned combination of sports car performance and everyday practicality for which the marque has become famous the world over.

The star of the show is undeniably the exceptional next generation of the iconic sports car classic, the 911. True to its name, the new 911 epitomises the synthesis of the seemingly contradictory traits of performance and efficiency, sportiness and practicality. Crafted from a design tradition rooted in motorsport heritage yet always looking towards the future, it will appeal to discerning motorists who settle for nothing less than the highest standards in sport performance, fuel efficiency and car design. Even better equipped than the generation before it, the new 911 features a brand new design and a longer wheelbase, with refined engines that consume less fuel but deliver more power. At the launch event for the new 911, Porsche announced the starting price for the 911 Carrera is RMB 1,476,000, while the 911 Carrera S starts from RMB 1,671,000.

The progressive model features numerous efficiency-enhancing technologies and modifications that confirm once again Porsche’s leadership in taking responsibility for the future of the sports car and for the environment. The new 911 maximises fuel efficiency and lowers emissions with auto start/stop, thermal management, electrical system recuperation and an intelligent lightweight aluminium-steel body that drops weight by as much as 45 kg. The 911 Carrera’s 350 hp 3.4-litre boxer engine cuts CO2 and fuel emissions down by 16 per cent, while the 3.8-litre boxer engine with 400 hp on the 911 Carrera S reduces CO2 and fuel emissions by 14 per cent.

Like any other Porsche, both new models bring the engineering of tomorrow to the road today with outstanding performance enhancements. The 911 Carrera completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 287 km/h, while the Carrera S blazes through in just 4.3 seconds and achieves 302 km/h. Despite such an impressive increase in performance, fuel consumption remains astonishingly low in both models: the Carrera consumes 8.2 L/100 km, while the Carrera S consumes only 8.7 L/100 km. Uniting tradition and innovation, performance and practicality, and form with function, the new 911 embodies Porsche Intelligent Performance.

Porsche Intelligent Performance is also displayed in all the premium cars Porsche showcases at this year’s show. The Cayman Black Edition, limited to 188 units only in Mainland China, reaffirms that Porsche always matches ground-breaking performance with unmistakable style. All black, inside and out, the chic yet sporty coupé comes standard with particularly high-quality equipment including Sound Package Plus and the Porsche Comfort, Infotainment and Design packages.

“We are very excited to be launching the new 911 Carrera in Asia from China, our most dynamic market in the world, where we have already delivered more than 20,000 Porsche cars so far this year”, said Mr. Helmut Broeker, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche China. "The progression of the 911 and all our other models show that while many legends look to the past, at Porsche, we always look towards the future. And in our future, we are committed to continue expanding the range of our products and services, as well as hosting exclusive launches for the many loyal sports car enthusiasts we are so fortunate to have here.”
