Porsche Carrera Cup Australia returns to the Australian Grand Prix in 2011 - Re-launch on the world stage for national Porsche championship
Australia. Porsche GT3 Cup cars will provide a spectacular aural and visual backdrop at the Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix from March 24–27, 2011.
The Australian Grand Prix has been selected as the re-launch event for Australia’s championship of the world’s best and most exciting one-make sports car racing series.
“We are delighted to bring Porsche Carrera Cup back to Australian race tracks with the series re-launch on the world stage at the Formula 1™ Qantas Australian Grand Prix,“ said Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director, Michael Winkler.
“We have an exciting new GT3 Cup race car, substantial interest from a number of teams and the full support of the Porsche factory to bring Carrera Cup back better than ever.“
A number of competitors have already signed up for the 2011 championship, including Porsche racing stalwart Mark Cini and 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion Craig Baird.
A number of new competitors have also committed to the 2011 series and paid deposits for the lightweight, 450 horsepower thoroughbred racing machines.
The 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia racing calendar is expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
