997-series GT3 Cup Cars will race in 2009Porsche Cars Australia satisfied with outcome
Porsche Cars Australia (PCA) today expressed its satisfaction that agreement had been reached between the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) and organisers of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and Australian GT Championship respectively to allow its Carrera Cup cars to run in 2009.
The decision by CAMS means that current Carrera Cup teams will be permitted to race in either series.
The Australian GT Championship has welcomed Carrera Cup teams while the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge has brought forward by 12 months the eligibility of the 997-series GT3 Cup Cars.
“While we are still obviously very disappointed that we were forced to withdraw the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship for 2009, we are nevertheless glad that CAMS and the Category Managers have reached agreement for our teams to race in 2009,” says PCA Managing Director, Michael Winkler.
“We remain committed to motorsport in Australia and will continue to provide high levels of support to our customers with on-track parts availability and technical assistance throughout the 2009 season.”
