Porsche Carrera Cup Australia: Round 1, Saturday, Race 2Repeat success for Luff and Bates in Adelaide

Warren Luff and Tony Bates have again led the charge at the opening round of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in Adelaide, repeating their triumphant efforts in Race 2.

Luff led from the start, pulling away from his rivals to hold a comfortable lead for the majority of the race. Richards was able to gain on the front-runner in the closing laps however, sparking an exciting battle in the closing stage of the race.

Richards was unable to pass after a final corner attempt, leaving Luff to take his second win from this season’s two races.

“It’s a great result for the team and we’d love to make it three from three tomorrow,” said Luff.

“We’ll go home now and do our homework; we need to improve our car for towards the end of the race as Richards had some really strong speed in the final laps. I can’t say enough about all the hard work the team has put in. Bring on tomorrow.”

Team-mates Nick Foster and Nick McBride continued their strong form in Race 2 placing third and fourth, respectively, from top qualifier Shae Davies, rookie Sam Power, Michael Patrizi, Duvashen Padayachee and Craig Baird in ninth.
After claiming the Elite Class win in yesterday’s race, Bates repeated the feat in Race 2 and placed 10th outright, beating Shane Smollen, Roger Lago and James Bergmuller to the finish.

“It’s a terrific way to start the season. It was a tough race but I was holding Shane behind me quite comfortably and backed off the last lap or two to preserve the car for Race 3 tomorrow,” said Bates.

Michael Almond missed Friday’s race after a qualifying incident, however the local ace charged from the rear of the grid to place 14th ahead of Stephen Grove, Tony Walls, Renee Gracie, Marc Cini, Brenton Ramsay, Maurie Pickering, Dean Koutsoumidis and Adrian Mastronardo in 22nd, while Ash Samadi failed to finish after sustaining radiator damage.
