Pirelli joins Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia until 2014New name, new tyres: Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli

Pirelli Tyres will be the Official Tyre Supplier and Presenting Partner of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia for the 2013 and 2014 seasons following the successful tender of its Australian distributor, Trofeo Motorsport.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia will race on the Italian tyre brand for the next two seasons; while as the Presenting Partner, the Porsche series will now be named ‘Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli’ until the end of 2014.

Ten tenders were submitted for the Control Tyre Supply of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge category, which was reduced to a shortlist of three tenders - all of which were extensively tested at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit by Porsche Cars Australia.

The testing and evaluation process was extensive and covered a range of criteria including durability, performance, consistency, reliability, cost, trackside service and a willingness and ability to activate the association.

After a thorough evaluation of the data independently produced at the test days, Pirelli’s submission by Trofeo Motorsport emerged as the successful tender.

Porsche Cars Australia Motorsport Manager, Jamey Blaikie, is looking forward to working with the series’ new partner, Pirelli, for the coming two seasons.
“Tyres are a huge element to racing and are a large portion of a season’s budget, so we wanted to make sure the decision we made was the correct one. Therefore, we tested the best tenders thoroughly at Phillip Island,” said Blaikie.

“From the three tenders on our shortlist, the results were exceptionally close however Pirelli’s Australian motorsport dealer, Trofeo Motorsport, provided the best overall package. At the end of the day, these benefits will be passed on to our GT3 Cup Challenge competitors, improving the overall package of our series.”

Trofeo Motorsport General Manager, Rod Wilson, is pleased with the new association between Trofeo Motorsport, Pirelli and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia.

“In our capacity as the long standing dealer for Pirelli’s Motorsport products in Australia, we are delighted with the outcome,” said Wilson.

“We are looking forward to servicing the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli competitors during the coming two seasons.”

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli will enter its sixth season of competition in 2013, retaining its successful six-round format next year.
